These things which I believe - a poem of inspiration
I have written this poem as a special gift to all of my followers. This may very well be one of the greatest inspirational poems ever written. I hope that when you read it, it will give you the strength to hold fast unto those things which you so Truly Do Believe!
These things which I believe,
These things which I believe,
What are these things?
These Things that I believe.
These Things that I believe,
These things that I believe,
Freedom - one of the many,
The many things that I believe.
What are these things?
These things that I believe,
Life is a thing,
In which I do truly believe!
These things that I believe,
These things that I believe,
What are these things?
These Things that I believe.
What are these things?
These things that I believe,
Prayer is a thing,
In which I do truly believe!
What are these things?
These things that I believe,
Old-Time Morals are things,
In which I do truly believe!
Let us pray for the things,
In which I do believe,
Because they are these things,
These things which I believe!
Why must we pray,
For the things that I believe?
Because they are these things,
These things that I believe!
Let us believe,
In the things that I believe.
We must always believe,
In the things which I believe.
There are are very certain things,
Certain things that I beleive.
And they are different than other things,
Which others may believe!
These things which I believe,
These things which I believe,
These are the things,
These Things which I believe.

Ah Dr. Parnell, I have been trying to ask you a question in the comments on some of Nathaniel's posts but apparently you haven't seen it. Hopefully you will answer my question here.
In a previous post you stated you were against the killing of ANY human cells. In this poem you state that Life is one of the things you believe in.
However, as I understand, you are in favor of the death penalty? How do you reconcile these conflicting views?
The is reconciliation that is necessary. Yes, I do believe in Life, but I believe only innocent life is worthy of absolute protection form the hand of man, and innocent cells are truly a form of innocent life because these cells have done no wrong. However, when a peson sins, he does so with every fiber of his being! Thus, when we sin it is not merely one "member" of the body that must suffer, but ALL members of the body must suffer WITH IT.
The first sentence of my previous comment had several typos. It should say: "This reconciliation is not necessary."
I'm glad that you support freedom. I'm also happy to see that you *can* write poetry that isn't riddled with hatred. And while I can't say I think it's one of the "greatest" inspirational poems ever written (I'm sure even you would have to agree that the Twenty-Third Psalm is a greater work), it is definitely one of your better works.
I've noticed that both you and Nathaniel use a great deal of repitition in your work. I'm not saying this is a bad thing; in fact, many songwriters I know use this technique (and yes, I consider songwriting poetry; speculation has it that much of the poetry in the Bible was written to music), and I consider it quite effective. What I'm curious about is this: why have you chosen this particular technique, and have you ever thought about experimenting with other types of rhetoric in your poetry?
led head -- i typically use repetition for effect. there are certain verses in poems that are very meaningful and powerful that need to be repeated. it is these verses that typically get stuck in my head for awhile before i sit down to write a poem, which might also explain why i choose to repeat them.
ewap -- where the good doctor and i disagree about the death penalty is that i believe it is never too late for a person to repent for their sins and they should be given every opportunity to do so. of course, as many of my posts explain, society must be harsh with its punishment so as to deter sinners from committing their sins.
Actually, some of my poetry is inspired by verses getting stuck in my head as well. I think many writers experience the same thing.
But do you ever experiment with other kinds of poetry? Free verse, for instance?
It was a bit too repetitious for my tastes, but it got it's point acrossed. This one was actually less caustic than your last one. May I suggest a few things?
A thesaurus could be your winning ally. For example, you could use a different synonym for "believe" in every other stanza, like "hold dear" or "revere". That way it still gets your point across, but doesn't seem so repetitive and dry.
So then Dr. Parnell would you approve of stem cell research done on the stem cells of sinners?
Nathaniel- it seems as though that would be a fairly enormous difference of opinion between you and Dr. Parnell. If you are willing to accept such differences, are you willing to accept the possibility that some of the commentors who disagree with you have valid points as well?
EWAP -- i can agree to disagree with the good doctor because we both begin at the starting point of the lord jesus christ, son of God, died for our sins and every word of the Bible is the literal truth. that is a non-negotiable belief. whether or not man should be given a chance to redeem himself after committing a heinous sin , on the other hand, while something i happen to believe wholeheartedly, is less clear cut. there are very many instances in the Bible where God commands his believers -- like Moses, for example -- to go forth and massacre those who have sinned against him. my personal interpretation of this is that God, Himself, ordered it, so it is okay; but that does not mean we, as mere humans, should go off killing everyone that sins without a personal order from God.
I believe in these things of which are things in which you place your things of belief
